I dreamed of you, Transylvania, Is an exploration of cultural identity through the eyes of an adoptee. It questions what it means to grow up one's initial environment and dives into what belonging means in a broader society. The work takes an experimental approach as a way to understand the world around us. For this project I used myself as lens to explore questions around race & identity. I felt the urge to return to Transylvania, where I was born, and document that journey. While the photographs reflect on the relationship between land, nostalgic childhood and my own position within it, aims the film for a deeper connection with the universal idea around displacement, belonging and community. I dreamed of you, Transylvania, combines film, photography and text to visualize the complex layers of cultural identity and adoption.
